Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranCabrio has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The LC doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranCabrio has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The LC doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the GranCabrio and the LC have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 188 more horsepower (542 vs. 354) and 137 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 350) than the LC 500h’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6 hybrid. The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 71 more horsepower (542 vs. 471) and 89 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 398) than the LC 500’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8.

On the EPA test cycle the GranCabrio gets better fuel mileage than the LC 500 Convertible (17 city/26 hwy vs. 15 city/25 hwy).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the GranCabrio’s fuel efficiency. The LC doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the GranCabrio and the LC Hybrid have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All GranCabrio’s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

All wheel drive, available in the GranCabrio, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Lexus LC is not available with all wheel drive.

The GranCabrio’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The LC doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the GranCabrio has larger tires than the LC (F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21 vs. F:245/45R20 & R:275/40R20).

The GranCabrio’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LC’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires. The GranCabrio’s tires are lower profile than the LC’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranCabrio has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the LC.

The front and rear suspension of the GranCabrio uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the LC, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranCabrio has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranCabrio’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The LC doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranCabrio’s wheelbase is 2.3 inches longer than on the LC (115.3 inches vs. 113 inches).

The front grille of the GranCabrio uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The LC doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the GranCabrio a Subcompact car, while the LC Convertible is rated a Minicompact.

The GranCabrio has 13.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the LC Convertible (89 vs. 75.2).

The GranCabrio has a much larger trunk with its top down than the LC Convertible (4.6 vs. 3.4 cubic feet).

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the LC, the GranCabrio has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranCabrio’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The LC does not have an oil pressure gauge.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranCabrio to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The LC doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The LC’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The GranCabrio’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranCabrio has standard extendable sun visors. The LC doesn’t offer extendable visors.

When the GranCabrio is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The LC’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The GranCabrio has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the LC.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranCabrio has standard rear a/c vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The LC doesn’t offer rear vents.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranCabrio has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the glovebox. The LC doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
