Compare the2024 Maserati GranCabrioVS 2025 Ford Mustang

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranCabrio has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Mustang doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The GranCabrio has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Mustang doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GranCabrio offers an optional Surround View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Mustang only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

Both the GranCabrio and the Mustang have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The GranCabrio comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mustang’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 227 more horsepower (542 vs. 315) and 137 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 350) than the Mustang EcoBoost’s standard 2.3 turbo 4-cylinder. The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 62 more horsepower (542 vs. 480) and 72 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 415) than the Mustang GT’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8. The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 56 more horsepower (542 vs. 486) and 69 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 418) than the Mustang GT’s optional 5.0 DOHC V8. The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 42 more horsepower (542 vs. 500) and 69 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 418) than the Mustang Dark Horse’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8.

On the EPA test cycle the GranCabrio gets better mileage than the Mustang Convertible:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the GranCabrio’s fuel efficiency. The Mustang doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The GranCabrio has 2.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Mustang (18.5 vs. 16 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The GranCabrio has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Mustang. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

All wheel drive, available in the GranCabrio, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ford Mustang is not available with all wheel drive.

For better stopping power the GranCabrio’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Mustang:

For better traction, the GranCabrio has larger tires than the Mustang (F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21 vs. 235/50R18).

The GranCabrio’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mustang’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranCabrio has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Mustang. The Mustang’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The front and rear suspension of the GranCabrio uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Mustang, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranCabrio has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranCabrio’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Mustang doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranCabrio’s wheelbase is 8.3 inches longer than on the Mustang (115.3 inches vs. 107 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GranCabrio is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Mustang.

The GranCabrio’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Mustang’s (55% to 45%). This gives the GranCabrio more stable handling and braking.

The front grille of the GranCabrio uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mustang doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The GranCabrio has 9.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Mustang Convertible (89 vs. 79.2).

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors optional at extra cost in the Mustang, the GranCabrio has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranCabrio offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Mustang doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The GranCabrio’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Mustang’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranCabrio to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Mustang doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the GranCabrio has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Mustang doesn’t offer cornering lights. The GranCabrio also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The GranCabrio’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ford only offers heated mirrors on the Mustang Premium/Convertible/Dark Horse.

When the GranCabrio is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Mustang’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The GranCabrio’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Mustang offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Maserati GranCabrio and Ford Mustang offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The GranCabrio features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Mustang’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The GranCabrio has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Mustang Premium/Dark Horse.

The GranCabrio has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Mustang doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranCabrio has standard rear a/c vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The Mustang doesn’t offer rear vents.

The Maserati GranCabrio has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Ford charges extra for Homelink® on the Mustang.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranCabrio has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the glovebox. The Mustang doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
